United States Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who is currently in India as part of a multi-nation visit, has emphasized the strong communication between India and the US on trade issues, stating that discussions on tariffs are taking place at the highest levels.

Speaking to ANI on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue, hosted by the Observer Research Foundation in New Delhi, Gabbard highlighted the potential to further strengthen economic ties between the two nations.

“What I have heard from Indian government officials over the last few days is that there is an opportunity to strengthen our economic relationship. It’s encouraging to see a positive outlook on trade rather than a purely negative focus on tariffs. Prime Minister Modi is acting in India’s best economic interests, just as President Trump is doing for the United States,” she said.

Gabbard added that both leaders are working toward a “good solution.”

“The key takeaway here is that we have two leaders with common sense, looking for practical solutions. This direct dialogue is happening not just between President Trump and PM Modi but also among key officials and cabinet members in both countries. The private sector in India and the US is also keenly interested in these developments,” she noted.

She further emphasized the strong personal rapport between Modi and Trump as a crucial foundation for advancing US-India relations.

“The tone for the US-India relationship under President Trump and PM Modi was set during Modi’s visit to the White House. They share a strong friendship and a joint vision for strengthening our partnership,” Gabbard said.

During her meetings with Indian government and intelligence officials, she discussed expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, including commerce, trade, defense, and education.

“There’s nothing but opportunity in the US-India partnership,” she remarked.

Beyond diplomatic and trade discussions, Gabbard also spoke about her admiration for the Mahabharata, particularly the teachings of Krishna to Arjuna, which have been a source of inspiration in her personal and professional life.
